iPhone always on

The iPhone needs something like this. In fact even a litle flashing light on the side (showing that you have unread mail) would be useful. Right now, I have to turn it on to check, as it’s easy to miss the brief vibrations:

Apparently it’s coming to the next-gen iPhones. I’d personally rather something simpler like a blinking LED on the top or something. This looks like a battery sucker.
